just sharing an experience we had today!
my friend and i went to pick up her new project pony this morning. we went equippled with pony nuts, carrots, lunge lines, sticks and even electric fencing as we were told the horse was a nightmare to catch. we were also told it takes about 20 mins to get a headcollar on and it rears, dont even consider putting a bridle on it.
we were told the poor pony was going to meat as no one could do anything with him, he had been passed from pillar to post, he was an utter headshy psycho and nothing could be done with him. hes only 7.
well. me and my friend wandered around the feild he was in giving all the ponies some pony nuts, gave the boy we were getting some and he didnt bother his butt. gave him more and slipped a rope round his neck. caught. easy. led him into a stable, spent 5 mins scratching up his neck and ears, headcollar on. right onto the trailer, not a problem. travelled like he did it 10000 times over. got him to our yard and he seemed quite happy. once we got him in a box we took the head collar on and off several times and he didnt bat an eyelid. so we tried a bridle. okay he was a bit panicky but he stood and let my friend take it off and on 3 times.
psycho headshy pony, pft. hes a cracking welsh c, welsh passported and will be absolutely cracking pony for someone when we're done with him. just shows that the people are the ones to blame, not these poor ponies being shoved from one clueless home to another.
