Sorry if this gets long

Robin used to get spillers conditioning fiber. He has had it for approx 3 years. He got diagnosed with ulcers while on it. He then got a lung infection. So he was on abx and so I put him on soothe and gain as bribery. Stopped the fiber. He dosnt need soothe and gain as he is fat and so changed to fast fiber as similar. He decided he didn’t really like that so Friday 10 days a go I got more conditioning fiber and over 5 days mixed the conditioning fiber and fast fiber.

Today and yesterday he is showing all the old signs and is not happy. I will stop the conditioning fiber and go back to fast fiber. Could it be as simple as this?

Quite possibly! Perhaps feed what you were feeding but less of it if he’s getting fat and just ensure he had ad lib hay.

Yes it might well be .
Fast fibre contains sugar beet pulp which is a good source of calcium and calcium acts as a acid buffer .
Could you keep him on forage and a few grass cubes ?

Ok that’s actually good. I will get more fast fiber tomorrow and switch back to that. I’ll give it a couple of days before ringing the vet back. If he dosnt eat it then not sure what to do. He gets about 14 or 15kg hay over night (he is 650kg so that works out at just over the 2%). In small holed nets. This generally works out that he has a very small handful left in the morning, I am anxious about leaving him stood without. I soak it for his lungs and so have to be careful he is not getting too much that I have to throw away to keep yo sweet. I never used to give him breakfast but vet said better to give before he goes out so he dosnt have an empty stomach for the ulcers. I could maybe get some soothe and gain too and just give him a very tiny amount in the fast fiber.

The spillers conditioning fiber is just chaff with various nuts, not sugar beet.
