Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to wish the year away...but when do horses typically start to shed their winter coats? I can't remember!!!

Also, is it best to keep rugging in order to get rid of it quicker so the summer coat comes through...this is on an un-clipped horse by the way.
Thanks

Mine usually start shedding around April time, but then I am in Canada and our weather is quite different from yours.

I've always said that Patches is very attuned to the minuscule increase in daylight hours after the 21st December as she started to coat just between Christmas and the New Year last year. However, she's ahead of herself this time as the last couple of days she has distinctly been shedding some long winter coat hairs when grooming.

Spring can't be that far away now can it, or at least Patches is trying to convince herself anyway?
