My chestnut thoroughbred has a few small white patches on her and recently I noticed she had quite a few grey hairs all over her body (not as though shes a roan - not that many hairs). When I went to view her I asked if one patch in particular was a scar and her then owner told me no and that she had a couple of white patches dotted around her body. Just wondering why she has them? Not really noticed it on other horses before.

I've circled 3 on pic, click to enlarge abit more (not much help though! lol)

believe they're called birdcatcher spots. think Zara Phillips Toytown had them, and quite a few TB type horses get them.
It doesn't mean they're appaloosa, just a weird colour thing I think..

Years ago I had an AngloArabxConnie that I bought with 1 spot on her shoulder. Over the years she gained more and more - every time she cut or nicked the skin. The hair just grew back white!!

My Chestnut WelshxArab has little white spots come up, more the older he gets.

Dark bay TB has white almost roaning patches on her flanks.

This mare had no spots when I sold her, apparently they are coming out all over her body now. (8 year old Quarab) They are Birdcatcher spots.
