Is anyone else's horse absolutely grass mad at the moment? frank is kept on restricted grazing ( grass track) and gets hay and a fibre feed every day. He's not losing weight so I'm guessing he has plenty to eat. The problem is that he's absolutely mad for grass at the moment! Getting him out of the field is just about manageable in his dually but the whole time we hacked out today he was preoccupied with trying to eat grass! Drove me mad. He's not always like this .....Not sure if this is normal or if it's related to insulin resistance type symptoms?

Hi, my WB is like this. He's the same every year when the yummy spring grass starts to come through. he's a bit podgy at the moment and certainly gets enough to eat, looks really well etc, but when he spots a few blades of grass he goes nuts for it! Feel sorry for him really, he would love to be turned out in a huge field of lush grass! Until it made him ill, anyway lol :)

I would cut out the feed defnitely and chuck a plain old fashioned salt/mineral lick(not molasses) I just lob it on the ground. Mine gets fat on thin air.Cob doesnt know when to stop eating..doesnt pause for air even. You know the saying The grass is always greener!?!

Dont feel sorry for them. Cruel to be kind...laminitis etc. But try not to let them nibble when you are out riding.

But yes this is perfectly normal behaviour! Good doer.

he gets a feed as he has EPSM and has various supplements he needs to take and he has a couple of salt licks in the field :)

Glad it's not just mine lol

No ours is the same, he is the right weight but doesn't have much grass. He gets hay, fast fibre and happy hoof twice a day xx
