Cob in a rug?

For all you Cob owners what are you rugging at the moment? I really dont know what I should have on mine at the moment, he's a Welsh Sec D with a medium coat and I have just been putting him out in the day with a lightweight rain sheet and at night in the stable he wears a light fleece. I'm going to get a blanket to put under the fleece when it gets a little colder, but should i think of getting something heavier for when it snows and gets really cold?

What are yours in?
 
My boy (when stabled) currently has a lycra underrug with a thermatex on in the day, and the lycra with a lightweight (Amigo) quilt on at night (this has a full neck cover). When he is turned out, he is in his snuggy hoods TO hood and a MW Masta turnout rug at the moment. He is partially clipped.
 
Mine's clipped and lives out (well with the odd day in) and he has a medium weight on all day and night. When it gets colder, I'll put his neck on his rug. I did this last year and he did really well, he also spent all day and night out last year, so should be nicer for him this year with 2 days in a week.

She's out of work though, so I dont have to worry about clipping her. Her winter coat rival's my shetlands and she lives out all year round. (She's the welsh x in my sig)
 
I guess it depends on whether he is clipped or not? My two cobs have a blanket clip and are currently turned out in light weight no fill rugs (they come in occasionally when the weather is really bad). When it was minus 12 and snowing they lived out in 200g rugs with neck covers and were perfectly happy.
 
2 of ours are fully clipped and are living out in no-fill rainsheets at the moment. If it gets much colder Mason will have his 100g shires and Belle her 200g shires on. Splish has a blanket clip and usually wears just a rainsheet, except he's "visiting" the RVC at the mo where he's stabled.
 
My friend's Welsh Cob has a high trace clip and lives out 24/7. He only has a rain sheet on as anything heavier makes him sweat up. He just had this on in the snow last year as his mediumwweight made him too hot. They are designed to live on the hills and are very hardy. They are much tougher than you think! Don't overrug him as he'll be uncomfortable if he's too hot.
 
My Sec D has a high blanket clip and is in at night.

He has come out of the summer a bit 'well' so is currently either A) naked in daytime, B) no fill T/O or C) 200g T/O if weather manky (like today!)

At night he has a waffle/cooler on.

As the weather turns colder he will stay in the 200g T/O but prob with the addition of a neck cover and have a 200g stable rug at night.
 
mine has a blanket clip and is out during the day with a lw combo, his field has no shelter and he feels the cold! he's in at night with a light summer sheet on
 
My section C is living out, unclipped and only ridden at weekends. He is so far unrugged this year.

Last year he was stabled at night and fully clipped. If this was still the same he would be in a med turnout day time, with neck if raining, and probably a medium stable rug at night. In the very cold weather last year he ended up in lycra underwear inc full hood, 100g stable rug with 220g turnout on top. At Night he had the same with a thick fleece under. But he was fully clipped every month.
 
Low chase clip, out 24/7 with a no fill rain sheet and no fill neck, mainly for our convenience to keep her clean. In the Heavy snow/cold weather last winter she had a medium weatherbeeta with no fill neck and came in at night with no rug or her thin fleece.
 
My section D and gypsey cob usually have no more than a rain sheet and this is really for my own purpose, one is predominantly white and a filthy beast so its really to keep him clean. But both have them to also keep them dry.
I only go to a light/medium weight if the weather turns really bad, ie consistently sub zero.
The both live out 24/7 and are warm enough this time of year in what they have on, they'd probably be fine bare as well but wet horses and riding and limited time doesn't work well :D
 
Thank you all!! I'm getting him clipped in the next few weeks & he is ridden 5 days a week so it's easier when he's clean lol! I bought a thinner fleece today & think that'll be his pyjamas until it gets really cold. I'm such a wimp with him but I can't sleep or do anything knowing he Is naked when I'm warm & tucked up at home and it's cold outside lol!

My fell has a low trace clip and is in a weatherbeeta no fill LW sheet when he's out in the day and a weatherbeeta jasper lite at night. Today he has his sweat rug / summer sheet on under his outdoor rug as he was actually quite cold in his stable this morning (and I'm a wimp) so I layered him up a bit.
 
Until he's clipped he probably doesn't need anything. He's a horse, you aren't, that's why you need to be wrapped up to keep warm and he doesn't LOL!
 
My traditional cob is clipped along the underside of his neck, chest and belly (I am rubbish with the names of clips :o ) and the rest of him is super-yeti-fluffy. He's out 24/7, naked during the day and in a m/w with no neck at night. He survived last winter, with all that snow and everything, fully clipped with just his m/w at night, but he was much much fatter then so he may need rugging more when it gets really cold now that he's a lean machine.
 
Stinky and Farra - full clipped apart from legs and top of face, out during the day and in at night.

Over 14 no fill. 10 - 14 - 100 LW. 3 - 10 - 200 MW. -1 - 3 - 300 HW. -4 - -1 HW and fleece. Below -4 and the coldest we have is -8, 300 HW and 100 LW. None of my rugs have neck covers. My two are not the toughest examples of a traditional cob and clydesdale and are probably a little more rugged up than some.

In the last ten days I have had no fill, 100s and now am on 200s as it has turned colder. I aim to keep them so the base of their ears are warm and if I have them too warm, they both start to get itchy so prefer to feed them plenty of fibre to keep warm rather than rug up too much.
 
One of mine has a blanket clip and is wearing a thick fleece and LW Stable rug when stabled and a MW Turnout rug when turned out. The other one is fully clipped and is wearing a fleece and a HW Stable rug when stabled and a MW Turnout rug when turned out.
 
T-T is now sporting a bib clip and wearing a 200g Rambo supreme with hood. Our field is very open with little shelter. He will be living out 24/7 and has 4 medium weights that we can alternate and duo liners to add if we need to. :D
 
baby will be naked and fed for weather below "o" 3 slices of rather than 2 lol. mmmm big lad in rain sheet but no rug at night more hay there as nights get cilder . rugs good and needed but i asked self is it for me " the feel good feeling" or was i reallying rugging for horse - now as said feed for weather and shy from rugs :)
