M&M but only in classes where he doesn't have to be registered. I'd have thought he'd be a bit small to go in cob classes, they're usually around 15hh aren't they?

To me he's a cob. I assume he's not registered with a breed society?? He is a lovley little chap though and you should definatley get out and have some fun!! if he were mine i would hog and trim!!

Traditional cob classes or unregistered M+M classes.
I think he would do well in traditional cob classes.
ETS traditional cobs can be any size.

M&M and "Pony of Cob Type"
He looks more Welshie to me?
He would need to be over 14.2 and near to a full up 15.1 to do Ridden Cob, and be able to carry a 6ft 12 stone plus ride judge and have hunter type paces.

If her was Coloured, he would be Traditional, but no Traditional classes for non Coloured ponies

Most certainly no welshy in there, too much feather and a roman nose - most objected to!
Local cob classes he would do fine in the judges like a horse that looks like a cob - my son won local riding club annual points on our welsh even though he was up against hogged show cob types
If your talking county level then i'm not sure what you could compete him if hes not registered you cant do m&m nor cob classes as these are your big show cobs and traditional is coloured

i think you should leave him hairy but if you ever did decide to clip I'll come and do the deed for you. I love hogging, its very satisfying. and is alot less grooming

Inks_77 unfortunately I am a bit of a wimp about jumping...pony loves it though so we're working on me being a bit less pathetic. I don't think many places do WHP jump courses small enough for us at the mo (I can handle 1ft6 max

Even local level where they do not necessarily have to be registered the judges like to be able to assign a breed to the horse (unless it is a PB M+M class!) so that they can then judge the horse on the breed standards.

I have stewarded many times locally when the judge has asked whats that then?! so I can understand why you might get some funny looks in M+M classes even at this level as they are normally not registered but true to type so he would be hard to judge.

We normally run a cob class and get lots of hairies in it. It is not just for the hogged as at county and the hairies normally do just as well or better.

oh and we start WHP at 1'9 so you might find one, keep your eye out.

he is lovely btw.

Local classes then - tack and turnout, novice horse/promising newcomer if he is under 6, cob class, m&m unless specifically registered. Ridng club type if your brave enough to pop one little jump & gelding class.
There will be loads you can do - good luck with him he looks a little star!
