i was just wondering, i know irish vanner cobs are not really built for the sj or xc spher of the equestrian world, but i was wondering has and one got far like BE or affil with a cob ....?
me! im going to my 1st BE on sat with my irish cob. And i do dressage and sj with him, and we have won a few ODE's aswel. He has come into championship finals!
Friend has an aged heavyweight irish cob. She won loads of BSJA with him in his younger days and he happily jumped Foxhunters. She also showed him at County working hunters in the days when the jumps were over 3ft 6". He was a star.
Not really the same but my welsh job went to pony Fox Hunter and did PN BE - he was only 14.1.
Also, my mums horse Caf isn't a cob but a very chunky legged chunky 16hh chap and he has done really well BE, BSJA and open TC - in fact he ending up leading in an open and we won!!
Chunky chaps might not look the most talented but they can be as good as most when they want to be!
just training mine up, really didnt think he would be a jumper but by god he just wants to please me and once he understands he can jump and also turn on a sixpence if i ask him to, dont doubt them, they can do it if you can (i cant as well as i would like so i cant wait for my next jumping lesson tomorrow yipppeeee)
oh and, for the first time ever, i can actually offer some advice.... on schooling a cob.......they see an empty school as a boring blank canvas, put corner weaves up, bollards and things. dont do too much too soon or for too long, if cobs get bored or think something is beyond them, they mentally switch off, not because they cant or wont do it, because theyre not sure how to do it and they think theyre daft - unfortunately this is a trait of my own personality so ive had to start thinking for him as well as me but yipppppeeee he is picking it up ssoo fast. keep them interested at all times and lots of praise!!!
