I bought my first ever cob in feb. She is the perfect pony!! :)

A few questions however ;

How many cob owners clip in the summer? She was clipped when I bought her but her summer coat has grown so quickly & seems to be thicker than my tb's winter coat - so I chopped it off today and will sort out a summer sheet for her for cooler nights in the summer. She was much happier riding today (she was starting to get hot just walking) Do cob coats grow ridiculously fast?? I've clipped her legs at least four times since I bought her - it's growing back faster than I can trim it!!

My friend has a very hairy heavyweight black cob, she keeps his mane, tail and feathers full but clips his coat all year round as he just gets so, so sweaty and uncomfortable in work. (If it was mine I'd take it all off :p)

I have one of those and tend to clip my lad at least every 6 weeks all year round when he's in work. It's a real pain but it does keep him looking smart! So glad I decided to buy my own clippers though!

I had the same problem with my cob last year - his summer coat was thicker than a lot of winter coats! I clipped out year round - about every 4/6 weeks. He was much happier and less sweaty/itchy freshly clipped. It was a bit of a chore keeping on top of the mohican and leg warmers though...

Fortunately he was a pretty good doer so only popped on a lightweight if it looked like anything more than light showers as he was an old boy. He did wear a sheet in the stable - but mostly to keep stains off the white bits! Even in the bit of snow last winter I never had to use anything more than a medium combo as he was always toasty underneath - I just popped on an extra layer for a day or so after clipping, especially at night.

Mine will be clipped all year round this year. He gets sweaty very easily and with all the competing this year I thought it only fair

I clip mine whenever I feel he needs it regardless of season!

And yes his hair grows faster than anything else I know. I clipped my boys feathers completely last summer and they are already to the floor :D

Glad to hear its normal then.

My pony lives out - do you rug in the summer once clipped?

My hairy cob is clipped all year round too but as he has a lot of pink skin, he wears a summer sheet following clipping to prevent sunburn. Even on a seemingly cloudy day he can burn.
This summer, he'll probably just have a blanket clip as it protects him from the sun and is preferable to rugging him.

I clip when needed and use a fly rug with a full neck if I have hogged her as in full sun her crest can burn if I'm not careful.
