Who has a cob and jumps them?
Some people look at me like im mad when i say i would like to get my traditional cob jumping (long way off yet as he will only be 3 in march) but i don't think its such a mad idea. Someone please prove me right.

Zak is apparently still eventing!!! As well as showjumping

People stop and stare when he's jumping... the earth trembles in his presence!!

Just watch out for their legs! On hard ground they can get worn quick, and if yours is anywhere near as pigheaded as Zak, he'll occasionally decide he knows best and go through rather than over!!

cobs are ace for jumping! old friend used to jump hers over 1m easy!
mine is a cobx but she has loose jumped 1m20 & 1m ridden, but shes only 4 so this was a one off at this height. shes also only 14.1hh.
il see if i can find some pics!

I don't have a cob but years ago I used to ride a little powerhouse of a cob, she was only 14hh but built like the side of a barn and would jump absolutely anything you pointed her at, only thing was she did it at her pace which was either v. fast or flat out

Me, I’ve jumped Bodey 1m15 at home. We were playing in the school today clearing 3ft like it was nothing! I point my cob, he jumps!

Can you tell we like our XC?

just think of working cob classes - those fences are pretty substanial - and on the basis that - traditionally, the cobs were the farmers hunting horses.. they are supposed to be able to jump!

my friends cob loves to jump although the brakes sometimes fail.

Anybody who says all cobs cant jump is nuts, there used to be a 14.2 coloured cob on our yard who cleared up all the local shows did well bsja and cleared 1m 48cm to win a puissance. The pony sold for a small fortune.

Go for it when coblet is ready.

Don't know why my mates traditional coloured cob used to do senior BSJA always come home with a rossie. My welsh cob when in a good mood cleared 4 foot + easily.Always led to believe they should be able to jump with all that power in their hind end!!

My cob jumps like a stag, and he loves it. Easily jumps a 1m track, and has jumped 4ft (nephew on board not me!!). He can be a bit of a know it all though, and at these times, you can be lacking in brakes

Not only that, they can be far better at their turns than bigger horses (my boy is 15.2hh and he can turn on a sixpence)

I will believe they are, I have sat on my boy in a treeless saddle (all of 2 seconds, i know he is young but i am light and just wanted to see his reaction) and he was very comfy to sit on

. Daughter1 often rides bareback (and it's by choice, not all due to me being a cruel mummy lol).

I'm sure the OP has more than enough evidence, but to add to the list...

I was on one of the traditional cobs at my old RS once, and the instructor was comparing him with an ex-BSJA schoolmaster who everyone admired. Her view was the ex-BSJA was the sort of horse who would get you into trouble (he was a little enthusiastic!) but the cob would alway get you out of it. He was so clever and neat with his legs (as you see in many of the pics on this thread, it seems to be a cob trait) that he'd always clear the fences. He was so powerful behind he did tend to bounce you out of the saddle on the first jump though!!

My old boy was 14.3hh and jumped 1.20m!

Some pics ridden and freeschooling (sorry pics rubbish as taken from stills of a video

Ohhh I have a couple -

First watch this- This was our annual yard staff games night-

Black and white cobby is barely 15hh, and if he wasn't kept in trim would be very hairy traditional. End fence is 1.40m.

And this is a pic of him doing BSJA-

And these are a couple of our hunting cobs! Pics from Stilemans.

The ultimate jumping coblet! He was 14hh and before he moved on he jumped clear round the BE Novice course at Blackwater Farm, SJed 1.10m happily and never ever walked in the dressage tests! He was mental but very talented, and in all these photos my siter is 12 or 13, as was he.

A didn't ask himn to jump this- he decided to, henvce the messy jump but he was the same size as the fences, and they were used in the Intermediate course!

He was v v classy, but unsellable. When we first put him up he was £4000 as a competiton pony who had winning BSJA up to 1m and the scope for more and clears round 1m ODEs and 1.10m XC. He was never sold, which was mental.
