I have a heavy weight cob.I bought her a new Arena adjustable saddle from a saddle fitter who fitted it for me a few months ago.It has been checked a couple of times since and all seemed to be well.Without wanting to go into too much detail though I no longer feel that it iss a good fit.Physio found her back a bit tight and trainer has consistantly struggled to get left lead in canter on her.Saddle last checked about 6 weeks ago.I wonder if she wouldn't be better with something like an AH supercob on a different tree.Any comments?

I bought an adjustable Arena cob for my table top connie and had the same experience as you. Got a native type saddler out who explained that the points weren't wide enough for my horse (apologies saddle fitters if that's incorrect, just how I understood how he explained it to me).

I ended up with an AH supercob which was awesome and fitted like a glove.

The Wintec/Arena/Bates Wides, and the K&M/TG cob trees are all the same shape in the head (the pommel) as their regular saddles, and they don't have rails to truly wrap around the wider ribcages.

They work for some, but this is what they far from work for all. They're generally not very rider friendly either, on wider horses we need, ideally, a saddle design that lets us sit narrower. Again they'll be fine for some horse/rider combos but not that many really, witness how many riders end up in a chair seat.

Thank you.
