cocker spaniel thinking of getting one

I have had a golden cocker bitch and now have Sweep who is a blue roan dog.

Both very good natured and love to be in the middle of whatever is going on - usually adding to the chaos!!

Kira my golden girl, was 12 when I lost her. I rescued her at aged 7 - I adored her and she adored me - I couldn't go anywhere without - that included the loo and bath!!

I have had Sweep from an 8 week old puppy and adore him too - although he is a totally different character from Kira. Both are gentle but can be little minxes!! Kira's speciality was raiding the fridge and Sweep can open the dog biscuit barrel when it suits him.

I love my cockers - Kira was full of beans up until the end and Sweep is the same. They trundle along at spaniel trot all day - when they are younger though they are things on a spring and need plenty of excercise. I think Sweep was about 2 before he would sleep past 6am!!!

Can honestly say that Sweep has never been in a fight with another dog or growled at a child/person etc. Kira was a bit reserved around men - definatley preferred women - but having said that would happily sleep on my dads lap and one of my best friend's adored her and she used to go and stay at his - he built her steps so she could sleep on his bed!! They both spend hours playing with kids getting dragged round assault courses etc.

Downside of cockers is they will head for water and mud so are invariably stinky and smelly - well mine are anyway as I don't like poncy show dog types - buit difficult as I live on a farm!!

Gorgeous dogs. I love Cockers, but ended up with Irish Setters instead!! Same enthusiasm and mentality!!

I have a cocker and would emulte all tht is said, he is blue roan and more show type that working. I keep his feathers underbelly hair etc trimmed short in the winter months but he loves coming down the yard, loves mud and water, very good with all children, VERY energetic and keen. lovely natured. lots do find that they have to feed them a decent dog food such as James wellbeloved or Burns rather than Pedigree or other more generla run of mill dog food as E numbers and colours etc make them much mroe excited.

Henry's got a very good temperament - was just saying today how proud I am that he goes from the peace and quiet of my house to the utter chaos of my family's place without turning a hair. He is a great dog - into everything though, he hates being left out of any excitement. He also talks constantly, grumbling and mumbling his way through the day

Ditto what someone else said about good quality food, and they need lots of exercise to keep them sane.

Henry can be very stubborn though - he is definitely a dog with personality! And he is never knowingly clean

You need a sense of humour and to be a fairly laid back person I think!

I breed Cocker Spaniel and have a litter as the moment, three orange roan (two boys one girl) and one chocolate roan and tan boy left out of a litter of 8.

They make fantantic family pets, can tire most children out. They are very intelligent and loving, but do need quite a bit of exercise

I went to Battersea and the RSPCA to look for one the other week. I already have a nutty english setter X hound, But do love cocker spaniels. xx

Having lost my wonderful cocker Nellie some weeks ago (this is the first time Ive been able to look at her picture without going to bits) we are now awaiting the arrival of a working puppy in two weeks so watch this space for puppy picture overload!

Little pup is chocolate roan and tan, like his dad, mum is blue roan and tan. She had a litter of 8, two chocolate roan and tans, three blue roan and tans, and three orange roans.
