I have bred Cocker Spaniel (not working cocker - the show type which are a bit smaller) and they are marvellous family dogs.
They have lots of energy and will tire any child out in the most appealing way.
They are 'dog' dogs as they were used in the hunting/shooting field.
A very companionable dog and gets on well with other animals,
Mine mix with other dogs, cat, and horses and chickens.
Obviously it all depends on the type of upbringing and the home they come from.
They are prone to eye problems, cataracts which is hereitary, so make sure the mum and dad have been eye tested otherwise they could go blind at an early age.
Sometimes the floppy ears are prone to earmites, so it is always wise to keep an eye on that also
Other than that - they are quite long lived and lovely friends and companions
They rock! I have Sweep, who is a blue roan and my previous one was a golden cocker. They are brilliant as family dogs as they love being with people, they are powered by duracell batteries as they always have energy to do something. Very loveable, kind and gentle - some are brighter than others (my golden bitch was v clever, Sweep not so bright!). Gets on well with other animals (Sweep is a gentle wuss!) and can be left in a pen with day old lambs ( by accident!), with kittens, rabbits etc as he doesn't chase anything except tennis balls and sticks! Don't know what else to say except I would definately have another one as they fab!
