what are they normally like, personality wise?? We are looking after Maisey, OH's mums dog for a couple of weeks - she's a little lap dog type! always thought they would be more fun?

Maisey was bread in America - not sure if that has anything to do with anything??

beautiful dogs...the solid colours can be a grumpy and get cocker rage but they are trying to bred that out of them. All spaniels are very affectionate and want to be with you all of the time...sitting with you, in the car with you, in the garden with you ....they are also mad and dont calm down till about 5 yrs old...my mum has got the dad to mine and the father is lovely temperment wise but my dog is a little grumpy...
American style is different to english...they have bigger heads and smaller noses ...little like the king charles...
do suffer from eye and ear probs at times....american eyes are worse and can get clogged so will need wiping..
Usually very good with kids and love people...
heres a pic of mine....he is called Alf

Remember there are also 2 different varieties! Show and working. They look completely different.

Show types are definately more prone to the eye problems etc.

We had a working spaniel gundog and he was mad as a hatter but very easy to train, intelligent and so affectionate. He passed away last year sadly but had a lovely long life.
He was great fun and I miss him

I'll echo what you said about the clingyness, they are so affectionate.

thanks April - shame about yours...bet he is really missed...they are such lovely dogs...mums is getting old now and I know it will be extremely upsetting when gone as you love them as much as a person...

Is she an American Cocker (like the picture below)? They are a cobbier dog, and much more low-key than the English Cocker (and usually get quite tubby in old age
