cocoa powder for mares with low milk production

Anyone know if this works, or is it a old wives tale?

Not heard of that one but feeding Fenugreek seeds is great for milk production, grind up in a 1 tablespoon per feed in a coffee grinder.

Also good for poor eaters.

Wouldn't you be better off feeding as per the requirements for the mare with particular attention to keeping up the calcium?

Calcium levels won't affect milk yield just part of quality.

I fed Fenugreek seeds to my mare and she was like a cow - foal grew really well and strong.

I gave my mare this after she foaled and didn't have much milk. Unfortunately it didn't make any difference. I can't remember how much i gave her but i remember thinking it was a lot more than i thought it would be!
My vet actually recommended i try it so not sure if that meant that he had heard some success stories with it. Either way i don't think there is any harm in trying it.
