So I've posted on here previously about my horse being bloated and gassy. After trying various diet restrictions etc with no luck we have now been subscribed Codeine Phosphate by the vet. I'm very hopeful of this as the vet says they have had good results in similar cases with this method. FYI, for anyone interested, the vet believes it's caused by the length of fibre in the diet irritating the gut wall.

I wondered if anyone had used it for this issue and what kind of results you saw?

Can I ask what symptoms your horse has / had? I have one who is extremely gassy - his farts are renowned on the yard! It doesn't seem to bother him, but it has always worried me that there is something going on internally that I should be addressing.

SEL you pretty much just described my mare! Poor thing has so many awful nicknames.
Symptoms are:
-Terrible wind
-Sometimes bloated looking
-then more recently we've had lots of liquid accompanying droppings, though the droppings themselves are well formed and as expected.
-Also this brown liquid can accompany the wind too, as I discovered to my horror recently when I got showered in it.

As you can imagine her back legs, tail and bum are constantly covered in the stuff. My life is washing her bum. She however seems generally very well. Not sick or sorry, shiny coat, happy enough in her work.

Next time vet is up at yard I'll have a chat. His poo is well formed enough but his farts are legendary. It's not just the volume but the length of time they go on for. Conversations have to stop until he's finished!

The on site riding school had a kids party the other day. I swear the highlight for a dozen 6yo was the big hairy horse farting...... (I'm beyond being embarrassed by him!)

It's nothing short of a miracle but the difference in two days is crazy. No wind. No bloating. No scouring.
Seriously hope this lasts!!!!
