My lad came in from turnout lame on his off fore. 5 days box rest to see if he would sort himself out, no improvement

Vet out. 4/10 lame on the soft, 6/10 lame on the hard off. Nothing wrong with legs so did nerve block. Tested positive on first one and came sound so definitely in the hoof. Weeks worth of bute and 2 weeks box rest to see if it was just something minor.

No improvement so X-rayed. X-rays clear.
Coffin joint then blocked off and he came sound so vet wants to send him for an MRI to see definitely whats going on. He should be going in a couple of weeks!

Anyone have any experience with MRIs/coffin joints? What could have happened/prognosis? Any input welcome!

Sorry I have no idea but going through similiar struggle with the guessing game with my horse who I am now wondering may have worsening of his coffin joint arthritis.

As X-rays are clear, your vet is probably thinking along the lines of soft tissue damage/collateral ligament/tendon damage within the hoof which will only show up on an MRI.
