Hi - I know this may have been done in the past but i'll give it a go anyway.
Does anyone have any brilliant ideas to stop your feet getting cold???
I can't seem to find anything that works. I've tried loads over the years from plastic bags in wellies to thin sock, thck socks.
I am now using wellie warmers but even they don't seems to work.
Every winter i seem to end up with sore feet where they get so cold and they i have red lumps on them!! And its started already!
Help!!!!

I wear two pairs of socks, or a fleecy pair of socks, or a long pair of socks normally does the trick! also you can get wellie warmers nowadays I think.

I use a thin pair of socks with a thick pair of thermal (ski) socks over the top, you just have to make sure that your footwear is large enough to accommodate this as it is all very well putting thick socks on but if they make your boots too tight you will cut off the circulation and have even colder feet. Also try and make sure your legs are warm enough- i put musto jods or thermal long johns underneath my jodphurs! I use to get chilblains all the time on my feet but hardly ever now- you probably get them from heating your feet up too quickly when you get home!

What boots are you using? I suffer from terrible chilblains and remember trying every pair of warm boots on the market a few years ago and none made much difference. There has been a massive improvement in the materials used more recently however, and a number of companies are really noticing that riding is a sport that requires technical clothing.

I invested in some of the ariat arctic tall boots this winter and they've been fantastic so far. They're the most expensive boots Ive ever bought (outside of long leather competition boots) but in my opinion they're worth their weight in gold. So far my feet have stayed warm, dry and chillblain free even whilst using only "normal" thin socks underneath. I have tons of thermal socks but just havent needed them so far.

Ive never found wellies - no matter how many pairs of socks or warmer you use - to be any good at all at keeping feet warm.

If I were you, I'd have a look at some of the newer boots on the market designed for winter riding. There arent just the ariat ones - mountain horse are supposed to be excellent. I didnt like their long boots as much as the ariat, but Im a huge fan of their clothing generally so I suspect they'll be more than upto the job.

I bought the Dublin neoprene-lined wellies a few weeks ago and they are great so far. Very warm and come up big so you could wear extra socks.

I have got the Muck Boot riding wellies, and my feet are warm and dry all winter long. My pair are in their third winter, and still going strong. I swear by them!

yes there are some wellies and riding boots (i forget the make, sorry) that are guaranteed to keep your feet warm, they are made I think from some sort of diving suit material.

I have a pair of wellies and one thin pair of socks is all thats needed and I also ride out in them. They have a rubber foot and then a waterproof strange kind of material for the leg. Most tack shops sell them.

Cool - thanks for the ideas. Me thinks i might have to invest in something other that my hunters! I have just ordered some thermal socks too, can't do any halm can it. Just going to have a look at the ariat boots and the muck boot. Are the muck boots thoses blue ones with fury lining?- my feet are so sore, i am at work today with my shoes off cause it's too painfull to keep them on! and i made the mistake of going to the yard straight after work last night with only a thin pair of socks on and i lunged her. Oh lord it took, not joking either, about 3 hours for the feeling to come back into my right foot!! I love winter!

Another vote for Muck Boots. They really are fantastic.

If anything I find my feet do get a bit too warm, so I only wear cotton socks with these.
It is great to be able to dismount without feeling like your feet have shattered!!
