Cold feet?

Here's a question from my OH. Horses obviously have nerves in their legs and hooves...... they are lame if they get an abscess, punctured/bruised sole etc and faff about if you cold hose their lower legs, so how can they stand around in snow and it not hurt? I have to say I'd never thought about it like that.... can anyone enlighten him please? (and me :D)

I think their hooves are made from the same stuff as our nails and hair :confused: x

thats why when a farrier puts shoes on it doesnt hurt, unless they cut the hoof too short and expose the nerves! x any issues where it hurts them causing lameness is inside of the hoof ie an abcess which touches the nerves etc.
