Am I the only one to cold horse legs after exercise when the grounds hard? I dont have a school so can only exercise in my paddocks which is far from ideal. But I cold hose afterwards for 10 mins. Someone thought I was weird doing this though!

Can certainly see where you are coning from doing it! I always treat horses legs after doing fast work, on hard ground or not. If it goes some way to helping legs, I am happy!

i dont have a school either but when schooling in the paddock i make sure she is booted up really well and usually use a refresher wash which soothes (an effol one i think! i know its in a blue bottle lol) on her legs although im always paranoid as she is an ex-racer and had to stop caz of a tendon problem. But as long as ive known her i have never had a problem with it.

Dont have a sand school neither i also cold hose after schooling in the paddock and use like ice or a refresh gel after riding. Sometimes though the ground is just too hard to do anything on.

I usually give them a quick wash just to cool them if they have had boots on. And if i jump Ron (home or show) he gets this cooling gel stuff on as he did his tendons in during racing.

I used to cold hose after all exercise (horse retired now) and use a refreshing wash (witch hazel, arnica, cucumber) that you don't need to rinse off. I still use it on her legs as I have her booted up out in the field - so give her legs a wash off if hot. She is a tb ex-racer with very delicate skin and legs.
The rinse I use smells lovely!!!
So no I dont think its strange...I think its considerate care of your horse!!!

It is in the Red Rum range...it is just a rinse wash - you dont have to wash it off...freshens her legs up lovely...I love the smell!!!
