Cold?

Daisy is having her rugs left off whenever possible to help in her weight loss programme but someone at the yard tonight suggested that I was being cruel and she was cold. She's been on a diet for three weeks now and hasn't lost any weight. She is out with a muzzle on, rugless when its sunny, I've upped her exercise and she gets almost no food.

She is 618 on the weigh tape and a 15.2 middle weight cob. She has quite a low blanket clip and is really wooly where her coat is left. I think that today was quite nice and sunny and that she should have been fine. I checked her ears when I brought her in and they were nice and warm.

Does this sound unreasonable?
 
No sounds fine, have only been putting a MW on mine at night even when we had a frost the other night, to try a get the weight off (mines fully clipped).
 
Fine, I only put my horses light weight rug on in his stable at night if the temperature is due to be 5 degrees or lower...other than that he does not need it and gets too warm (he is a Sec D cob)..
It is the exercise that will get the weight off...plenty of hacks at a good strong walk and building up the trot to long stretches. Don't be tempted to leave for periods without food and make sure she can still nibble through the muzzle. My boy is very muscle heavy and is a 15hh Welsh...he weighs 513kg at the moment and I like to have him at 498 kg during spring and summer...to give you an idea.
 
Ignore them, they just sticking nose in as they think strange

If ears warm and she not loosing weight she is obviously not cold - you are doing the right thing, any way is your horse and not as if you neglecting her or it's snowing etc and clip s minimal - so dont worry
