Jamie my special boy is in horse hospital with colic.... He was not well late last night and after several vet visits he has been taken in for monitoring and treatment... He has yet to improve....Any healing vibes you have to spare gratefully received, It looked late last night to be gas colic but he has had an unsettled night and this morning he has a displacement of the gut around the spleen area. He has been taken in for drug therapy and close monitoring.

From me too xxx (with some extra special added bits)

Get well soon Jamie

Oh god - gassy colic from too much good grass can clear quite quickly with buscopan but this is beginning to sound more serious. Got everything crossed for you - this might be a very difficult few days so stay strong and positive, especially around your ned who will pick up worry vibes and get even more stressed. Please let us know how he does? x

Thankyou for all so much for the positive vibes and support .... they seem to be working....the vet has just rung to say that he is much brighter this morning and has become a bit of a thug. More importantly 2 vets have checked him rectally and neither can feel the displacement so hopefully this may have resolved. The next step will be to offer food and see if he remains problem free. We are hopeful but are very aware that at 29 he is rather senior in years.

Fingers crossed for you.

If it's any reassurance I've had exactly this with Jim twice. He wasn't admitted to hospital, largely because he's a stress head so better in his own surroundings, & both times I spent 48 sleepless hours watching & walking him. I was knackered! Luckily both times it resolved itself eventually & he was ok when food was reintroduced.

I can still remember the absolute panic when the vet said his gut was displaced around the spleen so I really do sympathise with you x.

Hi - just a quick update... the vets have continued to be happy with him overnight and will allow him a little turnout later today. If all runs smoothly I can fetch him home this evening ...I am so relieved.....Thankyou again for all the support

I have a message for him; Your mum needs some R&R after this little 'episode' of yours, so enough of the funny stuff - OK? Settle down and do only normal, well-horsey things and do not exhibit any signs of 'things which need to be seen urgently by a vet' or show other potentially bankrupting symptoms. There's a good boy

I am hoping that the experience of being in a stable next to a braying donkey will keep him on the straight and narrow for a few days at least
