Found Woody down in the field yesterday afternoon. Immediately called vet. He done one poo while walking him while waiting. Vet done rectal. Wet poo far back. Bucket full of water tubed into stomach. Scan taken as well. No displacement. But could be impaction stuck in u bend of colon. On advice he was walked every 30 mins. He done a poo at 6pm. Then nothing. Was on colic watch all night and walking him regularly. He perked up though. . He refused any of the really sloppy apple juice mash. Had vet out again at 11am. No poo since 6pm last night. Stomach now making noises. He’s drinking. Picking at short grass as allowed turnout. Was re rectaled. Poo now at the front by his anus. She pulled out a lot. Was again re tubed and another bucket of water and electrolytes. If no joy tomorrow, then repeat once again. In himself, he’s obviously looking much better than when I found him yesterday. He’s still hunched up a bit. And where the saddle would sit, there is a raised hard area on each side. Perhaps tucked up? He’s still not feeling well. And needs to poo. Anyone had this process ? I’m absolutely exhausted. And worried so much.

Rigs had this. Tried loading onto the lorry, no gain. Had the vet when the only sign was that he was a little uncomfy and he hadn't eaten all of his haylage.

He was tubed that afternoon and there was some poo, but he was not good next day. He had an impaction, far back.

I had him tubed 4 X a day for days. It was a full bucket each time. He had a tube permanently left up his nose to help avoid excessive bleeding, that needed watching 24/7. It was touch and go. I was very keen on being proactive as I knew I would not fund an operation. He had paraffin in as well as salt water. I had the week off work and massaged him with an equissage and by hand. He was gently walked. No food at all as it would just add to the blockage.

A week later and he was very skinny but clear. It took another week on small meals to get back to normal.

I hope yours isn't as serious as his was.

Is he trying to poo? I had a horrible issue last year, colic symptoms but couldn’t find a cause and wouldn’t respond to treatment. He was straining to poo but nothing coming out.

Turned out he had a rectal abscess. I doubt it will be that, though, as they’re really quite rare. Two very good vets had treated him at home, including rectal exams, but it was only found when he was referred to horspital.

He’s done one very small poo since he had the vet again. But it’s only one. Spoke to vet. Still monitoring. And watching like a hawk. Otherwise , not showing any colic symptoms. Still bit tucked up. But not as bad. But he’s not right.
Keep him drinking, electrolytes will help ❤️

Hi. He’s slowly pushing the poo out ! Three overnight. Usually it’s about 7. He’s a big boy. Done another two today. He was refusing to eat but is now hungry. Having very sloppy water mash. And regular small amounts of soaked hay. Cross fingers we are getting there. He is drinking. Which is good news.

Not colic but I had a horse scoped recently and was very concerned how long it took him to poo afterwards! My vet advised that when they have been fasted or not eaten for a while due to things like colic, it can take a good while for food to work its way back through the gut and things to return back to normal (which for my horse is a lot of poo  )
