Mine had a horid bout last week and to cut long story short ended up in Newmarket on a drip and with liquid paraffin pumped into him every four hours.

He had a good night thurs and once they started feeding him was back to normal and passing droppings. He came home friday and seemed himself, poo'd on box etc, ate dinner Fri evening ok, but sat morning had only passed three droppings over the 14 hours he was in, didnt eat breakfast and hadnt cleared his hay.

This morning he passed two droppings overnight, but ate dinner last night and breakfast (although it took a fair while considering he is one of those that gobbles it down)

Turned him out for abit this morning and brought in at lunch, ate some hay this afternoon and his tea too, passed 2 droppings in the 5/6 hours he was in but they contained alot of parafin...should they?

How long should I expect until he is eating, drinking and passing droppings as normal!?

when the digestive system has been upset by something like this....it does take a while for it to settle back down....as long as the droppings are still being passed then i would not be overly concerned. it may take a while also for to get back to normal with his eating and drinking as i pressume he was tubed with the liquid parrafin, so may have a sore throat. just make his feeds nice and moist/mushy. it is normal to see the liquid parrafin in the droppings as that is its job....to lubricate, so aiding the passage through the system. if you are concerned, phone the vet who treated the horse as they will know the case. hope he bounces back soon. x

my boy had colic 2 weeks ago he gets it every time they have to stay in even though i excercise him still cant get out much due to the weather so i am paranoid about amount of droppings he is passing he wont eat bran so cant give bran mash am feeding lashings of sugar beet and carrots and apples along with his regular food to try and keep everything moving hope your boy is better soon
