Yes. Its relatively common and while obviously risky there are many which make a good recovery.

I am asking because I took a friend's foal over to Leahurst and he had surgery to remove an impaction in his small intestine. I was just looking for some advice on how they recover for her really more than anything.
He is up and suckling this morning, but had a mild colicky attack this morning but seems to be recovering well now.
Lots of healing vibes are needed for this poor little man.

Forgot to add, he did not have any intestine removed and they did not have to cut it. There was a bit that was starting to rupture, so this was repaired.
