If your horse has been through colic surgery, could you talk me through the recovery period and how long it was until you could turn out/ride/lead out in hand etc etc?

All depends on the horse, the chestnut in my sig had surgery took alot of gut out. He stayed in for four months in a big stable (he is 17.1hh) then we turned away for a good few months over winter just to give extra time. Then brought back into work slowly and then started eventing again and never looked back competed upto 3* level

. However did find if he got a slight chill he would show colic signs. Hope grace is ok.

A long time ago for me (20 years) but back then was told could not ride for 6 months, got back on after 5 cos she did so well. Box rested cant remb for how long, small feeds each day, hand grazing gradually built up over period of time to allow back into the field. Recovered fine competed to elementary, jumped over 3ft, told not to breed until 3 years but didnt bother. But was very wary of colic after and she had a few mild bouts i knew the signs you learn, if h's stuff (cant remb name) was around then i would have used it, but used pink powder and v v strict with feed times.x
