After the surgery on sunday my boy seemed to pick up was eating and manuring ok, but over the last two days things have really deteriorated. His wound has got infected causing peritonitis (sp?) and there has been some bleeding in his abdomen which means he is producing red bloody wee. He is looking very weak and colicky again and the vet is telling me he's critical and to take every 4 hours as the come. He's still eating a small amount and manuring but they are tubing him with fluids to stop him getting dehydrated. If the infection clears up they're not sure how much damage will have occurred to his gut now. I'm just taking each 12hours as they come and sitting tight, if he doesn't pick up in the next 24 hours then they've said there's nothing more they can do for him

I know how stressful it is having a horse go through operations and hoping it will be ok wouldnt wish it on anyone. My thoughts are with you hope it all goes ok and horse pulls through.

I am so sorry. I hope he picks up and comes through this. Your very brave and seem to be dealing with this better than I would.

Thinking of you and I have everything crossed he will be ok. x

I feel what you are going through atm and its not nice. My mare had peritonitis and a perforated ulcer 9 years ago, she is fine. Im sending lots of positive healing vibes for your boy and for you too.

Please let us know how he is and if there is any help you need. Hx

Thank you, for all your vibes and good wishes. I am preparing myself for the worst in the hope that anything better will be a bonus.
x

You poor thing, my old pony had a colic operation 15 yrs ago and I still remember all the heartache that goes with the recovery.

I really hope he pulls through
