Thought I'd let you all know the progress so far... She was doing very well, she had been having grass in hand and passing it which was promising. Unfortunately yesterday and today she has had an elevated heart rate and temperature. Could be peritonitis which can be quite common after abdominal surgery and should clear up with the penicilin and anti inflammatories that she is on, could also be a problem with the incision itself as this isn't healing very well.
There hasn't been any change in last two days so they may well review her antibitoics tonight, although they are a little guarded about doing this as they don't want to cause too much upset to her gut flora.
She still seems bright so fingers crossed this will sort it. If it doesn't and she deteriorates then she would have to go back in for more surgery which may well be unadvisable as they are causing even more scar tissue and the prognosis then would be very grim so it would be decision time on the euthanasia front.
She seemed to be doing so well, I sincerely hope that she starts to fight back yet again as I don't think I could justify more, possibly pointless surgery.. Not only for my girls sake but financially too. ( I hate having to say that btw and I know you take on financial responsibilities with horses)
Again, everything crossed please people. She needs everything that she can get right now

Ahhh Im so sorry

Understand what you are going through as well
We had an ex polo mare that under went colic surgery...it was a very stressful time and not without complications.. however she did make it after lots of TLC and great vets.
She has been fine since and back to her normal self the only sign she was ever had surgery is a small scar

Keeping fingers crossed it is something minor. When one of my boys had colic surgery in March 2008 he also had some set backs in the few months following surgery where everything was settling back down inside.

Sending loads of positive get well vibes.

Thanks everyone; just waiting for an update today.. Hopefully it will be something positive.

MurphysMinder I tried to PM you but your mailbox was full.. thanks for the thoughts though

I sincerely hope it's only a minor setback and your mare will be back home soon and you'll both be able to put her ordeal behind you.

How scary. Colic surgery is my worst fear.

Her heart rate has returned to normal but her temp is still elevated. Awaiting a call from the actual vet as this was just reception. One positive though x
