I have the vet coming out this afternoon, but thought I'd see what ideas others may have on this:

Yesterday my 19yr old mare seemed colicy (has had mild bouts of colic on a fairly regular basis over the last few years) but on closer inspection has a painful swelling under her jaw (basically running the length of the jaw from chin grove to throat) and had lots of very thick but clear saliva with no smell.

She was not eating, but offered sloppy sugar beet which she took and then began to nibble at a little hay and perked up slightly. Went back up later on and gave speedi beet with some fast fibre and she was still picking at hay.

I am heading up shortly to offer more beet and see how she is doing.

I am thinking possibly tooth related/abscess? Teeth were done a few months ago, nothing much to be done, just a couple of edges taken off. She is due to be wormed (inc tapeworm) and moved onto clean ground shortly.
