Long story cut short, I have a foal here who is having a weeks Bute. The vet is discussing Gastroguard or Ranitidine with the owners, meanwhile has anyone used the liquid to alleviate potential gut issues in a horse/pony/foal?

Or to tackle afterwards?

I have used coligone in the past (touchwood not needed it for a couple of years) for my colic prone mare, just to ease discomfort whilst on box rest. It does seem to produce good results and anyone I've known use it is always happy with results.
Hope foal gets sorted soon, what's the bute for if you don't mind me asking?

I also love Coligone and have it on lorry as well as in feedroom!

Foal has to have remedial farriery and the vets have advised Bute to remove any pain he may be feeling in advance of this happening, and for a few days after as he adjusts to his new foot design.

Aw bless him. I was no help then, assumed you hadn't used coligone. Have you called the coligone people?.. They are very helpful I believe :)

I called the Coligone people yesterday, tried the landline which rolled straight over to Tescos Mobile answering service. Sadly, not for the first time, haven't had a word in reply. The last time she rang me back literally weeks later and said they had had trouble with the phone, by when I had solved the issue myself! She was very apologetic but I know that it had taken them a while to get back to me on other occasions, not weeks but several days, or I have had to call a second time.

I appreciate they are a small company but they do need to tighten up on their customer skills, just my view though!

If it's any help you can buy ranitidine in Tescos fairly cheaply - £1 for a box of, I think, 7 75mg tablets. I don't know what it costs from the vet but it's a lot cheaper than Gastroguard.

Yes, I get them for us! However it seems that I would need an inordinate amount, the sort of quantity that they would refuse to sell me, so a single tube of GG may work out more or less on a par, given he has a light bodyweight.
