Coligone Vs Acid X - Has Anyone used these & what do you think?

I could not get mine to eat coligone for love or money - I hated the smell too - its like milk of magneisum meets sickly mint.

I had sucess with an ulcer guard pellets from I think its Equine America - the people whom do Corterflex.
 
Gingerwitch - Do you mind me asking you how much you pay for the ulcer guard? How long does it last you and how big is your horse? How long has he/she been on it?

Bess & FDC - How long did you guys have your horses on the coligone? Was it after a course of gatroguard?
 
ive also used aloa vera juice around £20 a bottle last two weeks from forever living.(its ment for people but works brill for horses) also alfalfa soaks up and neutralises stomach acid.:D:D

My lad is permanently on Coligone. He has never had Gastroguard. It does take a while for them to get used to it, my lad hated it at first and we had to resort to Marmite sandwiches to get it into him, Bradshaws were very helpful with suggestions as to what to do. However, the trouble was well worth it, he is so much less stressy, grumpy and colics much less. *Touch wood* I will keep him on it for the rest of his life, he is getting older now and I don't want him going through surgery.

Is the powder or liquid more palatable?

My horse has been on Acid X for 3 weeks and she absolutely loves the stuff! She can be a fussy eater though. I wonder what she will think of the coligone if I try that instead!

I'm not sure whether to try the coligone or keep her on the Acid X.

It looks like the main ingredients of the coligone is prebiotics, yea saac, seaweed, mint and milk of magnesia.

Would it be cheaper to feed the separate elements?
 
I used acid x about 3 years ago on a grumpy stressy tb who was prone to 'outbursts' within a week he was a different horse, he had about 4 months of it and the effects have lasted until impactive colic a could of months ago when he was pretty much starved for 5 days, he showed acidy symptoms so we have him acid x again for 2 months and he's back to normal again - I highly recommend it.
 
My horse suffers gastric ulcers and has been on gastrogard quite a few times. This year I decided to try something else so I put him on ulcergard, it was ok but once again he got ulcers. I changed to coligone liquid and powder and he has been great (touch wood lol) So I would recccommend the coligone
 
Nothing would persuade my lad to eat Coligone powder but he's perfectly happy to eat the liquid in his feed. I use that plus Equine America's Ulser Gard &, touch wood, haven't needed to have him back on GastroGuard for a couple of years now.
 
have been using coligone liquid for over a year now and has made a big difference to my boy, much less resistant to the leg and grumpy about grooming etc however......have just this week started him on hilton herbs gastri-x and noticed a MASSIVE improvement again, so will combine the 2 for a week then drop off the coligone and see what happens.
 
I feed colligone to my horse, a nice big syring down the throat does the trick ;) However, she now actively looks for it. I find it brilliant stuff and i have tried all the vet and easy to buy products. This is by far the best!
 
I swear by Coligone and carry a syringe with me on the lorry for competitions and I have the bottle of it on my yard.

Yes, my horses arent keen on a syringe but thats because they associated it with wormer or bute but once they get the taste they are more than happy to swallow and not spit. It means I can administer bute to horses that wont eat the stuff - I just mix it with a little coligone and down it goes !

Ive also used coligone to tempt fussy feeders... so its not just for colicy tums !

Fab stuff. And H's Mum is so approachable that any problems or advice can be quickly dealt with.
 
I don't know where people are getting this weird notion that Coligone contains Milk of Magnesia....it doesn't!!!! Very very good stuff tried it when it was very new out in a foal that vets felt nothing could be done for due to chronic scour that's cause couldn't be determined. Colt was loosing weight at a frightening rate, weak as water, and suck reflex rapidly diminishing. H's Mum sent some by express post and after the first dose was brighter, the second dose was sucking and the third dose was standing. H's Mum on here is fantastic and gives wonderful advice and will honestly tell you if she feels her product won't help. She will probably see this post and respond for you!
 
No idea why people think there is Milk of Magnesium in Coligone, there isn't. But what I love about it is that it does what it says it will, and has helped my colicky lad on many occasions,

we use the coligone powder on all ours -at first one fussy TB wouldn't touch her food with it in
emailed the company and they got striaght back to us with a few suggestions --so we syringed it in to her

she now eats it in her food happily with it mixed in
also keep the syringes for emergancies

we buy ours through our local tack shop and for some reason get it a couple of pounds cheaper than off the website
