HELP!!!

My mare has Colitis, had the vet out a few weeks ago who diagnosed it and gave her a 5 day injectable course of pen & Strep.

Her back end cleared up, no more farting liquid or uncomfortable pooing.

Well. ITS BACK! :(

I am really struggling to manage this problem as the vet has said that a lot of it is just managing the condition as she seems to be very prone to it.

She hay in the field that lasts all day, she get a good sized net at night, and a small feed of Pony Nuts and Alfa A original. I am at a loss as to what has set it off again.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what works and what doesn't with regards to managing this. I don't want to have to call the vet out once a month because she has flared up again, I would rather be able to keep on top of it if I am honest.

She was wormed 3 weeks ago after the vet came (didn't want to worm until I had the go ahead from him) and I don't ride her when she gets runny as I don't want to aggravate anything. She isn't fed any supplements whatsoever.

I don't know much about it in horses but in people some foods can trigger it so might be worth looking at the diet and trying something different - only change one thing at a time tho.
I would also add in pink powder or a similar gastro supplement and see if that helps.

Avoid bute or anything like that and make any dietry changes very slowly to give her a chance to get used to the change.

Also from a vet point of view if the treatment is the same everytime she has a flair up then you could ask the vet to give you a stock of the drugs and then treat as soon as you get symptoms, will save you the vet visit regularly that may not need just ot get the medications - have a chat with your vet about it
