What are people's opinions on natural balance shoes? Farrier suggesting these for heels which have become increasingly collapsed. Expressed dissatisfaction about the balance of the foot (long toes, lowering of heels) and was told these shoes are the best way forward as my horse's heels were collapsing due to reasons beyond his (the farrier's) control...

No, they are within Farriers control!! That's what you pay him for.

The toes will need to be taken back but it's a gradual thing and the best thing would be to get xrays done and a good remedial farrier on the case so that feet can be brought back to 'normal'. Will take a good couple of shoeings though depending on how bad feet are.

hi miss gem, for whatever reason you,r horse has collapsed heels, he has them . so the fact is he must grow heels, so you,r best bet is to have all the bent over ,underrun heel shaped the best you can, retaining what you think is healthy, you can then build new heels with vettec adhere or supeffast. you can then shoe him to his correct angle. this will preserve what heel he has got and will protect new heel that will grow. ir you repeat this for 2 or 3 trims, you will see new healthy heels grow
