my vet has a thing about horses feet and he says that my horses heels are starting to collapse, now hes still sound
(hes recovering from an injury-not foot related atm) and his feet dont seem to affect him.

I dont know much about it myself and just wondered if any of you did, he is currently shod in quater clip shoes, he is a 17hh ISH

Thanks in advance

It's the sort of thing that some horses are naturally prone to - if you have one of them then a decent farrier should be able to keep on top of them.

However sometimes its just down to poor farriery.

The quarter clip shoes are good for horses with a tendancy to collapsed heels, allow the toe to be kept short and the shoe to be set slightly further back for good heel support.

If your vet has felt the need to mention it to you then I would take him seriously, ask his advice on local farriers.

I have only just changed farrier (hes just done him for the 4th time) and the vet seemed happy with his work but now it doesnt look like its working. He used to have natural balance shoes thats were put on terribly (hence the change of farrier) but the vet never mentioned collapsed heels then.

I hate hooves and shoes!!!

The only way to properly assess foot balance is via x rays , so if you're really concerned I would have some done.

On the other hand , if your horse is sound - if it ain't broke why fix it.....
