Please can someone tell me if it is ok to ride a horse with a wind problem. My horse is fine in walk and trot but in canter he makes a lot of noise. Is it ok to keep riding him or would he need a tie back operation. He is just doing some novice/elementary dressage, nothing to strenuous.

hi, i used to have a horse with a collapsed larynx (both sides) & he was fine. Before i got him he used to low level BS(JA) up until he was 9, then was the hunter masters main horse for 5yrs, after which he did low level eventing. He didnt make a noise in walk & trot, but it was quite obvious in canter, especially when working in an outline. However, the fitter he go the less noise he made.
Obviously every horse is different & yours may need an operation to work at those levels. Your best bet is to talk to your vet.
