Collecting puppy

Firstly- I am not trying to break corona rules at all so please don’t all murder me at once ? more wondering than anything else.

We have been on a puppy waiting list for 18 months. Bitch mated well before corona, all agreed and deposit paid. Then comes corona, lockdown which we will have all followed to the letter. Puppy is due to be collected any day now aged 9 weeks which obviously isn’t going to happen. We have already had many FaceTime meets etc as the puppy is 3 hours travel away.

My thoughts are what are the responsible breeders going to do with potentially 10 or so large breed puppies for god knows how long? My breeder is great and will socialise puppy well but I am not really wanting a puppy much older than about 12-14 weeks for personal reasons. So what then, are breeders expected to keep puppies for months?

What happens to breeders who can’t care for the puppies, can’t afford to feed them etc etc? I’m not talking about irresponsible people churning out god knows what but well planned and carefully thought out litters.

Is collecting a dog ever a reasonable excuse to be stopped?
 
Unfortunately our breeder does not drive- it’s us collecting (maintaining distancing as much as possible!) Or not at all.

I don’t want to risk a huge fine if I’m stopped and I say I’m collecting my new dog ?
 
An option then! I’ll ring a couple of them- not sure the breeder will be 100% happy letting her go to a courier instead of direct but it could be an idea.

If you have a letter/email from your breeder confirming what do are doing I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I wouldn't want to use a courier. Hermes have managed to lose some dog food, I dread to think what would happen to a dog.
I would go and collect it yourself, it's a welfare issue to leave it with the breeder.
 
I picked up a puppy about 10 days ago because I'd already visited before the lockdown and didn't have to go inside. Under animal welfare grounds my breeder asked Public Health England if it was possible, as she lives alone and works in the care sector she couldn't really take the necessary time off to raise a litter and care for her adult dogs.

We had enquires about the puppy about 2 years ago! The puppy was confirmed and booked on scanning which was around 9 weeks ago.
The breeder has around 10 large breed puppies and is also working!
I have spent a lot of time looking for a courier today but have quotes ranging from £350-£500! I could transport a horse for less so looks like we will be cancelling or risking the drive ourselves.
The breeder is happy to keep the puppy a couple more weeks but I doubt things will be lifted before then.

Im not one of the people getting a corona puppy honestly! ?

As long as I followed social distancing and stayed in my car the full trip I can’t see how it would be any different to my getting a new hoover from argos last week, infection risk wise!
I know it’s non essential though and I don’t really want to be caught sticking my fingers up to the rules either.
The puppy would benefit from going to it’s new home sooner rather than later though!

I would just go and fetch it, tbh. The breeder can pop it into a crate in the garden and step away, you can take it out of the crate and put it into a crate in your car. Leaving it with the breeder is becoming a welfare issue.
