Colored Jackets for Dressage

A post about red jackets for showjumping got me thinking - what do you all think about wearing colored jackets for dressage? Not bright, obviously, but the darker tones that are allowed. I am desperate for a dark red/burgundy jacket but I can't decide if it a) exists and b) is incredibly tacky. Oh, and if you do wear a colored jacket to dressage in, pictures are a must. :D
 
I have a burgundy jacket. I checked the rules first and dark colours are allowed :)

I like to think I'm not tacky ;) and have had loads of compliments about it.
 
I sometimes like grey jackets but I'm very old fashioned and prefer black for men and navy for ladies.

Saying that, a nicely suited coloured jacket may just make you stand out to the judges a bit more.

Ooh, where did you get it from? Might need to add it to my Christmas list. Do you have any photos?

I don't like navy, but the other option is black with a different colored collar. I do quite like the idea of black with gold points, but again - I find it really difficult to find the line between interesting and just plain tacky. :o
 
Grey sounds lovely. Personally I think burgundy would stand out too much at dressage, but i agree it would look lovely on black/ brown/ dark bay horse.
 
I have a grey pinstripe SJ style jacket that I have worn for dressage, I think I'd prefer something a bit darker grey if I were doing more dressage but worn with smart hat and boots I don't see why not :)
 
Have no idea how to post photo's!

I got it made by Equiport. They were great and sent me loads of burgundy samples for me to chose from. Has a pale gold (really pale) lining and dark bronze buttons that I supplied myself as wasn't keen on theirs.

My horse is also a dark bay and yes, sometimes I feel a bit....."out there" when I do dressage even though no one has ever made any negative comments.

I had burgundy X/C colours on my chestnut and we looked very smart (so I was told ;) )and when I couldn't event her anymore I went into a bit of a burgundy overdrive :)
 
I have a dark bottle green jacket which Ive used for dressage and lots of people like it. I now use a Navy Pikeur however. I can also recommend Equiport, I have a electric blue Equiport jacket I use for sj and its lovely, fits well and very well made
 
Suggest you check the 2013 BD rule book carefully as there have been some changes regarding jackets.
 
I have seen a lady in a purple jacket at dressage. I didn't like it personally but it was fairly dark and if she liked it then so be it. I think as dressage is about the way of going and the partnership it seems a shame to detract from the picture by being a bit gauche but I would never comment on it to someone as it is not important enough to me to upset someone over. Though this is the rule in 2012 so:

Tail coats and short jackets may be any plain conservative, dark colour. For example navy, bottle green or charcoal grey etc. Tweed coats should not be brightly coloured or have loud patterns.

Don't appear to be able to access the 2013 rule book online yet??
 
I have a custom dark chocolate technical fabric but traditional cut pikeur with a bronze collar I love and I wear it out to dressage, with positive feedback.
 
I can't seem to find the 2013 rule book anywhere online. Might check before I do buy anything - I will be BD'ing next year so I don't want to get something and not be able to wear it.

I've been looking at the Equiport jackets and I think they are lovely - definitely going to have one made, even if it's in black. Although I am still leaning towards burgundy, especially now I've seen they can have gold collars and trim. Pony is a dark bay with lots of gold on his bridle so we'll definitely stand out, if nothing else. :o
 
The 2013 rule book says:
"Tail coats and short jackets may be any conservative, dark colour, for example navy, bottle green or charcoal grey etc... and may not be multi-coloured or boldly striped. Subtle pinstripes are permitted as are coloured collars and contrast piping to collar, lapels, pockets and vents. Unless entitled to wear them coloured collars registered with the FEI for use by National teams may not be used i.e. the red collar used by the British team Tweed jackets should not be brightly coloured or have loud patterns.
