Has anyone seen or had a pony whose muzzle/lips have changed colour. My friends pony is 16 yrs old chestnut and its lips have changed from black to pink i have never seen this. What is it?
it could have viteligo, which is a photosensitisation reaction, causing the pigment and normal skin cell melanin to react and pretty much go. resulting in pink skin.
It shouldn't cause too much of a problem in terms of health its just quite shocking for owners when it happens.
However, she should maybe have the horse checked out as it can also be a sign of liver disease........
They have spread considerably over winter despite steroid cream from the vet. I will not have a steroid injection as Dex had laminitis before i bought him. He is also going round his eyes. Jenhunt on here with Ron has some impressive pictures in her profile.
