I have a buckskin gelding. He has a faint dorsal stripe, which gets darker in winter. He also gets a little bit sooty in winter with dapples. All year he has a bright white ring of hair at the top of his tail. He has no other white flecking through his coat until now. I got him last November so haven't seen his coat change from summer to winter until now and he is developing white flecking through his coat in front of his wither and going down his back. It is quite prominent over his rump, but less so over the middle of his back. It doesn't go too far down his body - probably 6" or so either side of his spine. I am not noticing any of the sooty marking he had last year yet - he is still quite yellow whereas last year he was quite dark. I thought rabicano, but it seems the wrong bits have white flecking for it to be that. He has solid black legs and a snip on his face. Could it be sabino causing it? I am just curious - genetics interest me.
