Colour Fun!

So, I've been trying to get my head around colour genetics and was casually looking at the for sale ads. This horse is advertised as dun. Is it though? My guess (because it is a guess) is that it is a sooty buckskin with splash. What does anyone else think, especially the experts?

Can't see the splash personally... Do you mean sabino? For the markings?

Sorry I'm suffering with my sore eye... using my good eye I think she's sooty buckskin with sabino (for the white markings as Love said).

Splash I think for this particular horse. Is smoky the same as sooty? Thanks for the replies back to the drawing board for me ... I do like the horse advertised very much though (and it was just a random pick as the colour looked so interesting).

Smoky black and smoky cream are a black horse with one copy of cream and a black horse with two copies of cream. Cream dilutes the coat.

Sooty puts black pigment on the coat, so sooty darkens the coat.

Splash does give white head and leg markings (as well as piebalds/skewbalds) but it tends to look as if the horse has stuck it's head in a bucket of white paint and the edges on the markings are very straight.

Sabino causes jagged edged markings.

You can get splash and sabino together.

The horse in the ad, has a star and jagged edged stockings, so sabino fits better.
