Colour Genetics- does anyone know...?

My friend is thinking of breeding her bay mare with a bay stallion and thinks that crossing two bays will give a chestnut foal. Does anyone know if there's any basis to this? Presumably it depends a lot more on the genetics of the individual animals?

If both the mare and the stallion carry a red gene, then she has a 25% chance of a chestnut from that cross. If one of the parents does not carry the red gene then no chance of a chestnut foal
