I am wondering if The Wee Coloured Job carries the dilute gene or not and I thought I would ask on here before deciding if I am going to pay to have him tested. He has such an array of colours in his pedigree! I am surprised he has turned out the coluor he has given the colour of his parents -and yes he is DNA tested to both so he is 100% theirs.

If crossed with this mare what could they produce colour wise?

No he doesn’t appear to have any dilution gene.
The only one he could be hiding would be silver (doesn’t show on reds) but I can’t work out if Dam might have it from just that pic (and knowing that presentation in shetlands/minis isn’t always ‘usual’

If red mare both are ee so will be red with 50% chance of tobiano from him.

His sire is bay tobiano and his dam looks to be buckskin. There's a very slight possibility that she's got silver at play too, but I wouldn't like to guess from a single picture.

The Wee Coloured Job himself is chestnut tobiano. Bred to a chestnut mare, they'll have guaranteed chestnut babies, with a 50 percent chance of inheriting his white pattern.

If his dam does have silver, it doesn't show on reds, but it does mean he could have inherited it, and that any bay, black, buckskin, or smoky black foals he sires could both inherit and visibly display it.

See I suspect from her face mask that dam is quite possibly dun but that there’s other stuff going on. How old is she in that pic EKW? Anymore?

I did wonder if she was Dun rather than Cream. I just can't be sure from the pics.

It doesn't look like WCJ has inherited a dilute gene though, so maybe it doesn't matter anyway. :)

She’s an interesting one for sure, I do think she’s possibly silver still so poss worth testing WCJ if you’re interested :)
