do you have any pics? Her colour could completely change though tbh, shetlands have an incredible foal’ fur’ which even in blacks is a gingery/sandy colour.

awh she is super cute? how did you ‘rescue’ her? she looks like a coloured to me? is that a white patch on her left shoulder, is there any white on her other side?

No she only has that little bit and she was going to be fed to hounds she is covered in fleas and her coat is mega thick she seems ok though just needs a good bath and pampering my other horses don't no what to make of her don't think they have seen a pony so small

hopefully someone else will come along with an idea but i think dun and having that little white mark will probably mean she is classed as coloured. Is she registered? Do you know what colour the parents were? Mega thick coat is normal :D Well done for giving her some love and attention.

No she wasn't even got a passports just had her microchipped and sent her passport off and I can't resist when they need rescuing I rescue my warmblood youngster last year and she is ready to compete next season you get more out of a rescue horse

I don't think she will go black and white as she has gone lighter over the last few days of brushing the filth out of her fur i hope she is a coloure would like stick her in some coloured classes and she is cute but she thinks she is a shire horse

I think with a white patch that big se is coloured, you need Faracat on here she knows all about the colours:) you can get dun/ buckskin shetlands my friend breeds them and she has a few.

Dun and buckskin are two completely different colour genes. Dun is dun and buckskin is cream with bay. There is definately cream in shetlands/minatures. The stripe down her back could just be counter shading or where her foal coat is changing colour. Many black horses are born a mousey looking dun colour before turning black. Her black and white mane and tail with white legs and the white patch on her shoulder show she is definately coloured. You could colour test her if you want to know for certain what colour she is.

Just a quick reply, as I'm home poorly.

There definitely is dun in mini shetlands - I breed them. She looks to be a colour which is technically black+dun, called various things - black dun, blue dun, silver dun, grullo/grulla, etc. I didn't get a chance to see any white patch.

To see others her colour, have a look at our website: www.varkiesstud.co.uk

Think Varkies is probably right and they obviously have lots of experience :) Would be much easier to tell when their adult coat comes through and there is less fluff (cute though it is ). For a dun you want to look for a clear dorsal stripe and leg barring. I think she also has a tobiano gene although it's quite minimal it will be clearer to tell which type of dun when the coat is a bit finer as some bay+ dun can be quite mousy and some grullo black +dun can be quite subtle. Try whitehorseproductions.com if you want a better explaination.
