Hi I didn't know if this was exactly the right place to post this as I'm not exactly new to owning horses but didn't really know what other section would be!
I have a 3/4 arab x 1/4 saddlebred gelding. He's registered on his arab passport as chestnut/sabino. However I've noticed he has a dorsal stripe. I've never seen a chestnut with a dorsal stripe before and wondered if anyone knows if this means he carries a fun/buckskin gene or if it's just a random marking.
Sorry if it's a bit of an irrelevant post, I know it's not exactly important but I do find these things fascinating :) I have no idea how to post photos so can't upload one!!!

Faracat is the one for colour genes, but I would guess it was a red dun like this http://www.dungenes.org/red_dun.htm

Faracat my correct me one this.

Can you post some photos of your horse that accurately shows their colour? :)

My own grey (born chestnut) arab had a dorsal stripe before she greyed out (as did her sire) and neither of them carry Dun (or any other dilute gene).

I should add (just for information's sake really) that the 'buckskin gene' is called Cream and that a single copy of it on a chestnut base causes palomino - so I think it's safe to say that your horse doesn't have Cream! ;) :)

I would post photos but I have no idea how to! :(
I know; I'm useless!
I doubted he'd have a cream gene as well, namely because Arabs can't be dun or cream can they? And I don't think Saddlebreds can either! None of his ancestors are anyway.

You are right, arabs don't have cream or dun in the breed. I'm not completely sure about saddlebreds, but I haven't seen pictures of duns and creams in that breed so far. From your small avatar picture, he does look chestnut to me. :)
