I am going to start showing with my black Welsh cob and I was wondering what colour tack and equipment (gloves, show cane etc) should be?

I have heard that showing colours is better if it is brown but as I have a black horse I wouldn't really like to put brown on my horse.

its at county levels so quite important to get right.

any suggestion would be very great full as I need to get in the stuff soon!

Will it be bad if I have a black saddle and bridle as I can't afford to go and get more expensive tack?

Tack colour is not the be all and end all these days in showing. So long as it fits well and suits the horse black or brown is acceptable. But be prepared to be dropped a place behind an equally good horse in brown tack with an old fashioned judge.

Schooling and good conformation counts for far more than your tack colour.

I think at County Level you are likely to be marked down for black tack, sorry :(

I won my ridden class for 3 years running at the Royal Highland Show plus more classes and championships at all levels plus top 4 places in every HOYS qualifier that I did in black tack - and on Shetland Pony before they became popular to boot!

My black mare looks better in brown than black. She has a brown bridle but a black saddle as that is what fitted her best. We don't really do showing though, only the occasional local one and anything seems to go at those.
