I have three ginger horses and I'd love to know what "Official" colour people think they are. Body colour on each is similar, each of them has striped hooves, it's the manes and tails that are different.

Example A - Ginger, white blaze, one white sock, two white stockings, considerable number of white hairs in mane and tail. I think he's chestnut with flaxen mane and tail - he's Welsh!

Example B - Ginger, white star, fist-sized dark "oil mark" on quarters, considerable number of black hairs in his mane, even more in his tail - but less odd coloured hair than example A has. Is he chestnut? or liver chestnut?

Example C - ginger, no other colour hair on it anywhere, matching mane and tail. She's got to be chestnut surely!

If you can put some pics on your post (perhaps you have they don't always come up on my laptop for some reason), and post your thread in 'Breeding' you will get a better response. I advised someone else to ask a colour question on there noticed she did and she found out that her horse was a sabino.
I have a ginger looking horse but I know he is a red dun (he also has a dorsal stripe). I entered him in a coloured, palomino, spotted, dun etc. a couple of weeks ago and someone said to me "excuse me but isn't your horse a chestnut!?" The judge must have thought this too because she placed him 7/8! Off putting or what! He is an American quarter horse and was second out of two in the European and World Breeds class - ah well I just wanted to get 'out' this year and it was his first show - and he behaved beautifully (like a pro) in the ring, the judge did comment on his good manners (same judge as the coloureds).;)
