Hi All,
Here is a photo of my new coulored cob mare she is 15.2hh and stil growing, she has just turned 4. Her sire is a coloured sport horse (showjumper) her dam is a piebald traditional feathery cob. She is bay and white in body and has a massive black tail and her forelock/part of her mane is black. She has plently of mane and feathering to the back of her legs. I bought her broken she had a foal at 3 and was bought at sales in ireland as a yearling, so needless to say since buying her I have done hardly any ridden work as she needed turning away to gain some condition, she is now a lovely chunky girl, short coupled with fantastic high knee action in trot and canter
I would love to try her at showing, but what classes should i aim her at? im new to the show world. She will jump too im sure, but most of all she is the most fun a girl could have and I love her to bits.

The other mare in the photo is my homebred 16.2hh 5 year old TrakehnerxTB!
Any advice greatly recieved.

Thank you

well she looks lovely, you could do some in hand with her and coloured classes just have a look on a show schedule to see what kind of thing for you is just start off slowly and then your horse will get used to it :)

BUMP!!!!

Pleeeeese does anyone know???? I find it interesting as I also have a coloured cob and both vet and dentist have suggested showing ... dont know if they are just being polite??

Eeek, help from proper showing peoples if poss!!

First glance I thought it was my boy, they're similar markings!

She's not really heavy enough to do cob classes. You could really fatten her up (and hope she doesn't die of lami) and do ok, but she looks like she could do with loosing quite a bit as it is and would looks nicer lean and fit.

I'd have those feathers off and mane pulled nicely to plait. She's not hairy enough to show as a 'traditional'.

She's actually very similar in build you my boy (the black one) and has the same amount of feather - he looks amazing with his feathers off and mane plaited:

Hairy and scruffy (but a nice weight)

And all poshed up:

Then you can do most classes with her, at least at local level, then see how you go.

Coloured classes for sure. Small ridden hunter. Rising club horses. Working hunter. Just those 4 classes will keep you busy all day at a show!

Thanks for the replies, I dont believe in fattening horses up for the ring, having suffered for years with a laminitic pony I am very cautious about everyones weight. She is just a heavy build there is not an ounce of fat on her, infact you can even see her ribs, which worried me slightly!
Think I will give up on the showing idea as I love her mane being full and long, think she looks fab will stick to jumping and spanish plait her mane.
Thanks for the replies.

Of course you can show her! Local riding club shows are the place to start. Great fun even if you don't get a place it is something to have a go at. Most do coloured classes. I even entered my strangely-put-together gelding and got third place in the in-hand foreign breeds class.

Clipped like my lad in my signature-he's a traditional type but was all clean for his first inhand show.

I'd go for anything with her-bit of dressage, some clear rounds-anything and everything to get her used to the show atmosphere and being out and about. See what you like most then maybe decide what to carry on with. :)

she is lovely!!! and you MUST take her showing!!

as she has already done so much in her young life I would suggest you take her to some local shows and do some in hand classes with her. You can therefore do anything as it will just be for experience, in hand coloured, hunter type, best condition etc. Then when you are happy that she is relaxed and fine under saddle you could go again for the same types of classes under saddle. You could incorporate Riding Club horse (small jump in this) family horse, and eventually progress to working hunter - I think she would be a cracker!

Good luck with her and please send photo updates - she is a corker!

Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies maybe I will try at showing and do a few inhand classes. She has really benefited from her summer just chilling being a horse. She loves to work but her aids are still very babyish and she can be a bit like trying to turn the QE2!
I love her and think she's lovely but then im biased.

I would certainly hog and trim her. She doesn't have enough feather IMO to show as a traditional but would look very smart all clipped.

Hogging her mane is not an option I adore her forelock that touches her whiskers and her ultra thick 2 tone mane that hangs on both sides. However I will clip her legs is it ok to how at local level with clipped lets but a full mane and tail, would just love to show for the fun not seriously but likewise would rather not do it if it would be to get un-nice comments or laughed out the ring!
she is very evenly marked I never bought her for show but thought with her markings she maybe good enough for coloured classes.

Cheers all for the help
