I have a lovely traditional coloured cob with shoulder length mane. I've had him almost 2 years and his mane has been great.
I try to brush it as little as possible and he doesn't wear a neck. But this week I was plaiting it for a show and noticed clumps underneath that had fallen out. I've washed it and noticed underneath patches of baldness that have what looks like healthy pink skin....
I'm not sure what to do incase I make it worse, it's taken ages to get his mane show quality, and I'll be gutted if he looses it. Any advice....

Thank you :(

If he has a very thick mane he could just be a bit sweaty underneath and need a itch especially if he has a thick coat too!

This happened to my cob mare, she had a thick full mane and then last year I lifted it and noticed a big, pink bald patch. Didn't seem related to her rug at all and I couldn't figure it out. Used Megatek and nothing happened. She is now hogged and that patch is particularly bald, when she is first hogged it looks a bit silly but after a bit of growth it helps to cover it. No idea why it happened, the patch, which is about 6cms by 2cms in a rectangle was a little sweaty under her mane....

This happened to my one boy & it seemed to be working its way up his mane. I used Athletes foot powder (in case it was fungal or itchy) & this seemed top stop it in its tracks, Ised it for a week to be sure but it stopped after the first application. I had to trim the rest of the mane pretty short so he didn't look odd. It worked for me maybe for you too & don't ask where I get these crazy ideas from;)
