Coloured welsh cobs?

TBH that doesnt look at all welsh to me, BUT i did see a very very nice coloured welsh cob at leicester county show. and that was definitely welsh through and through

no your right coloureds are not acceptable. as someone said a small patch of white under tummy is allowed, there is even a special name for this but I forget

lol, even if it was bay, that horse doesn't look Welsh in the slightest! No, coloureds are not accepted by the WPCS.

Quite sweet looking, though, and I like the unusual 'action shot' from underneath!

There is no such thing as a coloured welsh cob. They are only solid/roan colours.

Most "coloured welsh cobs" are crossed with gypsy cobs, as they tend not to lose their high stepping action.

If a pure bred welsh comes out with too much white it is reg as a Sec X, my friend bred a coloured from 2 of her reg welshies, he was gorgeous and caused a real stir he was even in H&H! he was reg as Sec x.

Whilst the WPCS don't accept coloureds as pure breeds you can actually get a coloured welsh pony from fully registered parents, although it is extremely rare. I don't understand all of the genetics but believe it is to do with the genes for white legs and white markings on the head not "turning off correctly" and allowing the white to go nearlyall over the head and body. I saw a picture of a pure bred welsh with a chestnut ear and chestnut saddle patch.

But even if it is possible to breed a coloured welsh, I still don't believe that the above horse and many others like him advertised as welsh cobs are even part bred welsh cobs, which would mean they are not as described. Unless of course said horse was foaled in Wales!

It always amazes me how many papered so-called pure bred anythings are coloured. I could accept a largely white head and legs on a solid body, but not something marked like a cow!

Also I think it's a bit bad that it's being advertised as a piebald when it's clearly greying out and will be white all over in a couple of years!

I would say he's greying out... if he were roan then the head would still be dark. I think blagdon can cause roany patches, but this looks more like grey to me, and he's about the right level of greying out for 8, I'd have thought?? I'm no expert, my mare was already white when she came to me

But my friend has a grey 4yo and she's still very dark at the mo.

Blue and white is generally a piebald that is greying out.
