Colt or gelding?

Long story but have been offered a little colt, 3yo.

He is 11.2hh, lovely markings, been handled, lunged, had bit in his mouth and saddle on his back - would you have him gelded or not? I would quite like to ''bring him on'' and then sell him on.

i would personally have him gelded if you arnt going to use him for breeding or if he isnt breeding material. I dont believe in horses being kept entire if they are not going to breed as it must drive them nuts. you may find it easier to sell him if he is gelded as he sounds like he would make a nice childs pony!

Do you think it is worth having him? Current owner will let me have him for nothing, we have field and stables at home. I'm not small enough to sit on him myself so would it be worth it or not? I would want to sell him on.

Hmm , because to really bring him on to sell as a future childs pony, which is what he sounds ideal for he'd ideally need to be at least sat on / do a tiny bit . IMO anyway x

I wouldn't expect to make your fortune, but if you have a jockey and looking for a project then he might be fun!!..

Before the days of child, work and mortgages etc.. I had a couple of similar unwanted/surplus ponies, at best I broke even when they went off to new homes, (probably only if I didn't count the extra bits and pieces I brought for them!!) but was sooo proud when they turned into nice well mannered kids ponies that would go pretty much anywhere

If you are too big to sit on him there is still a heck of a lot you can do that just leaves someone to actually sit on him. I'll lend you my goat (signature) he does the job for a handful of grain!

Get him long reining up and down the roads, let him graze on the verges to see traffic, get him voice trained, boxing, tying, standing, being groomed, feet, teeth, the works, stick a saddle on him, put a big teddy on the saddle, hang some weighted bags over it, by the time he's done all that he'll think having someone sat on him is an absolute doddle.

I sell a lot of small ponies that have never been sat on, but they all take to it like old timers because they have done practically everything else.
